COVID-19 pandemic
You shouldn't defer your admission because of the pandemic, you can travel abroad with a student visa without any issues.

The pandemic actually makes it easier to be admitted and receive grants. Students are afraid of entering university and are deferring their education, meaning there's less competition for places.

Most classes are held virtually at the moment. It's possible to travel to Austria. Beginning January 15 2021, people arriving in Austria need to fill out a Pre-Travel-Clearance (PTC) form and stay in quarantine for 10 days and fill out a "Declaration of Quarantine" form on arrival. A COVID-19 test will be done on the fifth day, at which point your quarantine period can end early if the result is negative. It's important to make sure you arrive fairly early, so that your quarantine period does not coincide with the start of term.
