In Austria, bachelor's programs usually last for 3-4 years, and master's - for 1-2 years. Degree programs are available in German and English, but German language skills are a requirement for most programs.

German language skills are required for most degree programs. You will need to pass a German language proficiency exam and pass B2-C1 level to be able to apply to a university in Austria. The following language certificates are accepted:

- telc Deutsch „C1 Hochschule"
- Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer StudienwerberInnen DSH2

- Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache (Test DaF), minimum TDN 4 in all parts

The average tuition fee at state universities is €720 per semester for international students. Programs in applied sciences are more expensive - around €727-7,500 per semester. Private universities are more expensive. For non-EU citizens, tuition fee at private universities is around €3,000-23,000 per semester.
To be eligible to apply for a student visa in Austria, you must:
- Be accepted to an Austrian educational institution
- Be proficient in German
- Have enough financial means to study and live in the country
- Passport
- Birth certificate
- Statement of personal history
- Confirmation of financial means sufficient for life in Austria (minimum €10,000/year)
- Registration documents from an Austrian educational institution and proof of payment of €726/semester
- Motivation letter
- Medical insurance issued by a company accredited in Austria
- Students have the right to work while studying in Austria for no more than 10 hours a week
- If you want to receive permission to work for 20 hours a week, you'll need to meet the requirements of immigration law
- After completing their degree studies, students have the right to extend their stay in Austria and get the right to work
