Deadlines for submitting applications for academic year 2022-23
We're looking for candidates for September 2022, and March 2023.

The minimum period for preparing for admission is 3 months, but the ideal period is 12-18 months. If you want to be admitted this year, then start preparing as soon as possible.

The deadline for accepting applications depends on the university and program. This is usually between February and July.

University programs have 30-50 places allocated for foreign students, which are usually taken up quickly. It's best to send your documents early, universities are already taking applications for 2022.
Areas of study
German universities have a wide range of technical, economic, and medical programs. Art, design, architecture, business and economics are popular in Berlin.

There are also interdisciplinary programs available, such as business informatics, mathematical finance, and biotechnology.
Scholarship options
Germany has hundreds of scholarship programs with full and partial funding for cost of living. Funding is given out by states, private funds, and public organizations.

Our clients usually choose the following programs:
  • DAAD — a scholarship for a number of subjects
  • DAAD ERP — a scholarship for people studying for a Master's degree in economics
  • KAAD — a scholarship for catholics from Eastern European countries
  • Deutschlandstipendium — a scholarship for foreign students studying in Germany
  • Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung — a scholarship for students from developing countries.

You can apply for a scholarship both before and after being admitted.
Documents required for admission
To be accepted into a German university, you'll need:
  • a notarized translation of your certificates and any attachments
  • GPA — your average score on your certificate or degree, you'll need to add up your score on your certificate and divide by the number of subjects
  • a certificate confirming knowledge of German or English
  • a résumé
  • a motivation letter
  • 2 letters of recommendation.

You can also attach your portfolio, financial plan or any additional essays (optional).
Most universities charge €30 to consider applications.

If you choose full or partial support, your Univibes advisor will help you prepare and send these documents.
Cost of living
Cost of living is around €700–800 per month. This covers a place to live, food, and pocket money.
Language requirements
Classes are held both in German and English. However, there are much fewer English-language programs than German programs, they are often found at the Master's degree level. Bachelor's degrees are usually taught in German.

Educational programs in German require a TestDAF language test. You can prepare for these exams with our Univibes tutors.
Cost of education
Education at German state universities is free for everyone, including international students. However, students pay contributions for each semester — around €300–1,500 per year. A large part of this sum is the cost of a student transport card, and the rest goes to pay for the university's administrative work and public organizations
Student visa
Studying in Germany requires a student visa (Category D national visa). You can apply once you've been accepted into university.
COVID-19 pandemic
You shouldn't defer your admission because of the pandemic, you can travel abroad with a student visa without any issues.

The pandemic actually makes it easier to be admitted and receive grants. Students are afraid of entering university and are deferring their education, meaning there's less competition for places.
