Affordable education in the Netherlands for an international career

We're looking for candidates for September 2022, and March 2023.

Deadlines change every year, but applications are usually accepted from around January to June. The most common deadline is May 1, and also universities often ask students to submit applications by February 1 or March 1.

The Netherlands offers high-quality and in-demand education in numerous areas. Business management, media, economics, journalism, architecture, design, and engineering are popular programs.

Scholarships can cover education both partially and in full. Here are some examples of scholarships:

• Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (€25,000 — all expenses)
• Utrecht Excellence Scholarship (full tuition payment / full tuition payment + €11,000 grant)
• Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (10,000/15,000€ or full tuition payment)
• Maastricht University High-Potential (29,000€ every year — tuition costs + monthly stipend)
• Orange Tulip Scholarship (partial or full tuition payment, can also cover cost of living, visa, and insurance)

To be accepted into a Dutch university, you'll need:

• a notarized translation of your certificates and any attachments
• your GPA, i.e. average score on your certificate or degree
• a certificate confirming knowledge of English
• a résumé
• motivation letter
• 2 letters of recommendation.

You can also attach your portfolio, financial plan or any additional essays (optional).
Most universities charge €75-100 to consider applications.

Average living expenses in student cities:

• Enschede: 650-920 EUR per month
• Eindhoven: 850-1350 EUR per month
• Amsterdam: 1000-1500 EUR per month
• Delft: 780-1200 EUR per month
• Rotterdam: 760-1250 EUR per month

Average housing cost:

• One bedroom apartment/studio: 500-1000 EUR per month
• Shared apartment: 400-700 EUR per month
• On-campus: 400-700 EUR per month

Foreign students in the Netherlands are taught in English.

You can choose one of 2100 programs in English in the Netherlands.
The average cost of a Bachelor's degree is 6000-15,000 USD, a Master's is usually 8000-20,000 USD per year.
The most expensive programs are Business Administration, Medicine, Sustainable Development, and Law degrees.

A long-term MVV (Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf) visa lasting up to 5 years is required to study. Applying for an MVV visa is done via the university once enrollment and financial issues are sorted (tuition payment and checking you have enough money to live). The university can only request a visa from the Immigration and Naturalization Service on behalf of the student only after:

• enrolment
• payment of tuition
• confirmation of there being enough money to live
• provision of other necessary documents (requirements may differ depending on the university, so pay attention to the information your university sends you)

You shouldn't defer your admission because of the pandemic, you can travel abroad with a student visa without any issues.

The pandemic actually makes it easier to be admitted and receive grants. Students are afraid of entering university and are deferring their education, meaning there's less competition for places.
